I'm a local in Canada. My Dad is from England and has no cell phone. He told me to book with my credit card, and then ask that the booking name be switched to his name, so he's entered into the directory, not me. This way his business friends can call him at the hotel. Is any of this possible? Does he have to show up with me, which he will, in order to switch names? What if his flight is delayed?

Voting Question: What might cause network clients to lose their connection with a Microsoft SBS 2003 server?

We've got 10 clients, every new computers running XPPro. net config server /autodisconnect:-1 has been executed, supposedly allowing clients to remain connected to the mapped server for an unlimited amount of time. Server is running standard MS services, including Active Directory. This machine is NOT currently running an instance of Exchange and is operating behind a Firewall. Network is 100% new cable runs, every ping tests confirm 100Mb/s segments, two 100M unmanaged switches, stations balanced fairly equally between the two, and two CAT5 runs between the switches. Business environment is 18 hour days. Application specific, client/server, every Windows environment, network traffic is 90% internal, six-eight active logins max. Ample MS CAL's for every hardware. The primary business application sits on the (1) mapped server. Client machines require reboot every morning to re-establish connection to the server. We'd like not to reboot.

I'm on my second business. The first one was operated when I was a young 23 year old and overall I found it better to move on and educate myself more, after weighing out the pros and the cons of running that first business for 2 years. It's 5 years later now, and I've made business plans and implemented many of them to open a new business. The new business is a Website Design / SEO / Internet marketing firm that will be run solo till finances receive built up and I can develop teams within the business. I know how do do every these and I know how to market my business; but I feel like I'm missing so many things. From the simplest thing of making a protocol for how the phone conversation will go from start to finish - To making contracts for when sales arrive through and much more --- I've done a majority of the work as far as building the website, marketing the company in business directories and other areas of the web, did some other internet marketing techniques, and still have plenty of internet marketing strategies to tackle.... but I'm trying to evenly balance every the work being put into the business as not to focus solely on marketing for 2 weeks, then switch to something else and go back to marketing, etc. Much to do, but trying to even the playing field while i do it. Here's my question / my problem. So, this question/problem probably sounds odd... but it is what it is and I'm having the issue... I have a check list of things to accomplish before I (basically push the button) to receive every my marketing advertisements running over the web - but I can't receive myself to receive going on the relax of the list.... and am feeling overwhelmed that I don't have everything I need to be able to accept phone calls on 2 levels. First level is to finish the list of things that I wrote that need to be completed. 2nd level is making sure that the list I built is enough and I don't need to do more to make sure it runs smoothly and successfully. I guess I've arrive to the conclusion that my issues lies in the fact that I am used to being an employee and told what to do and I do it... and i always do it great. Now, I am having to just do it on my possess with no direction. Sounds silly, I know; but seriously, I know most of what i need to do, but can't find it in me on how to find my possess direction to do what I know I need to do... without being told. so, this happens every the time, in the lower right hand corner, a box pops up, and says (for instance) stacy shummler wants to add you to his or her friends list,,dadada and i say declined, then another bow pops up in the middle, and asks block sender? and then finally goes away,, then another popup, with a random bot name,, and it gets tiresome, and i never believed these were real people, and when the middle block box pops up, there is a click to file a complaint,, and i have done this several times (really) alway an car-response,,, like thanks for your feedback, we'll receive on that right away... HERE IS THE KICKER.. so i accepted the pal request,, then later when i opened up my mail, it popped up, ~hey are you around? and me~do i know you? bot~whats up, I found your username on a member directory of social sites..not sure which one cause it bundles them every together lol Me: dont actually receive it bot~i am bored at home...and this usually leads to bad things ~~~ and then "it", actually some nice of real time operator, or a real responsive bot program, who knows? then it solicits me to go to some pay sex site and just have my credit card ready,,dadada,, so skeezy,, cmon,, i know this is not a virus in my system, and i know from searching that plenty others are having this from yahoo mail,, so is it a virus within yahoo? that is big news,, even worse could it be a rogue element working for yahoo who is running this side spam/porn business? someone knows the answer,, let me know i dont know if you arrive back to read this, but trish is in the ballpark about this being an inside job from yahoo,, martin the criminals are not inside my computer, this is coming through yahoo, regardless of what IP i am coming from, thanks trish, and thanks for trying to help, martin

Resolved Question: Is there a way to password protect shared folders on a local network in Windows XP?

In the office where I work, we have 3 or 4 computers hooked up to a local network. One computer has a folder that is shared on the network, containing every the corporate documents for the business. However, two of these computers are sometimes in use by outside contractors who shouldn't always have access to these documents. We would like to password protect this specific folder, but have it accessible over the network and from the computer itself, but every with password protection, otherwise keeping the folder locked. The folder has many subfolders and files. My biggest problem is that the computers every run on Windows XP. Most available software is not compatible with this OS, and Windows XP doesn't support directory encryption by default. Is there a way to accomplish this, be it with Microsoft tools or third-party software?

I'm working on a school project and need the email address for every business in my home town. How could I go about getting that. The goal is to make contact with every business before the end of the school year and making a phonecall to each would be too difficult for my group. Thanks!

Resolved Question: How can i find an old employers phone number?

I had an employer back in 2002 and they have since gone out of business. I have the last known address of the business but it is no longer there. The phone number that i tracked down is now someone else phone number and not the company in question. I am needing it for a background check with a law enforcement agency and am trying to exhaust every my resources. Resolved Question: Can you resell ripped data if you....?

Say for example, i made a script that ripped business names, phone numbers, geolocation (long/lat) information etc... from a directory site, the data i would be ripping would be in xml/json format. If i then wrote another script to parse that data, and convert it into a csv file. Could i then sell that CSV file if i have completely re-worked the data into a new format? the yellow pages would be one of the sites i would rip from, the method im using doesnt require me to evade any nice of copyright protection, but you have to be quite technical to emulate every of the requests. The reason im converting it into another format, is the way the ripped data comes down, isnt formatted in a very friendly / readable way, so i was going to write a script to extract the data i want from the 'messy' files, and reformat it into a much more readable, flexible file. CSV files would be easiest for most, but i would also provide json and xml formats too.

Resolved Question: Where do you find 'free stuff' for your website?

I've recently registered a sweet domain name that I'm going to use to launch a site that gives readers free coupons, samples, etc. The last thing I want to do with this site though is be forced to fill it full of affiliate marketing and things like 'receive a FREE Apple iPhone' I've taken a look at a number of similar sites and my question to the community is: where do these sites find their content? They seem to have legit deals, offers, giveaways, coupons etc from reputable businesses. Is there a directory where companies go to list every of these deals and offers? As I mentioned, I'm not interested in turning this new site into a SPAM-ATHON so if anyone out there knows if there is a place(s) where a publisher can find these types of offers and then post them to their site, i'd be forever grateful. (Note: I know there are a number of these sites around already but I'm having a crack anyway :P) I'm really looking forward to some of your insights :) Thanks!

Resolved Question: Is Hotfrog a scam, do they sell information to spam sites?

I placed my business listing on the free Hotfrog directories and was initially approached by an overseas telephone salesperson to buy SEO. I declined and not long after that every my entries were deleted with a note saying that someone had changed my password. I find that too coincidental after I didn't sign up for SEO. Has anyone else had there business listing removed? Is Hotfrog a scam set up to receive business details to offsell to other directories? I find some of these directories are highly suspect.

Resolved Question: If I hyperlink in Word and send the document via email will the person be able to access the site/hyperlink?

I am creating a directory of local businesses and have found I can make the list in Word and hyperlink the sites to it. This, to me, is fantastic but now I want to share this list and the links to the sites by simply sending the document... will it work from another computer that I have sent it to? Can they just open the document from their email, click on the link In Word and have it take them to the site like I can do? Thanks muchly!
